Gaineamh/Sand
Aonair/Solo
20 mins (including 2 videos – Sand and Gaineamh ag Sleamhnú)

This dance piece is choreographed and scored with the elementary energy of the earth. It is about deepening the kinesthetic and proprioceptive connection to the resonance of sand with the human body. It is an evocation of contact and relationship with the materiality of being, through a recognition of structural and compositional elements.

A response to climate change in part, this piece is a reflection and a resonance with sand in terms of the touch of sand, the impact of other elementary forces, the soundscape, the evocation of play, building, gardening, composing with the earth.

The dance scores are created from BeDance methodologies supported by a Contemplative Dance framework. This solo is a work in progress that has been supported by an Arts Council Bursary, Arts Council Dance Artist Residency, Galway City Council, Galway County Council, Áras Éanna Arts Centre and Galway Dance.

‘Momentum’ is supported by the Arts Council, Galway City Council, Galway County Council, and the Town Hall Theatre in collaboration with the Galway Arts Centre/Nuns Island Theatre.
