Contemplative Dance Practice Workshop – ‘Waves and Particles’

“I’m a particle, I’m somebody, and then I’m a wave – I’m fluid, not fixed – and then I become a particle again. We experience this in dancing states all the time.” – Barbara Dilley (2017)

As part of CDP International Week Bernadette Divilly is running a 3 hour workshop in Contemplative Dance Practice. Participants will be introduced to key elements in this work include Dharma Art, Somatic Intelligence and Improvisation.

Contemplative Dance Practice (CDP) mingles the discipline of meditation and improvisation in a simple structure using personal awareness practice, open space and discussion/reflection time. Participants will practice tracking kinaesthetic delight and cultivating awareness while engaging with the four pillars of mindful movement practices.

Contemplative Dance Practice was originated by Barbara Dilley at the Naropa University in Bolder, Colorado, USA. The practice brings contemporary dance and Tibetan Buddhist practice together to create a simple but strong container to work both artistically and creatively with the art of living. Bernadette Divilly came into this practice during her graduate studies in Somatic Psychology – Dance Movement Psychotherapy at the Naropa University in the late 90s.
